A small chin and weak jawline often result in facial imbalance that results in a less attractive and weak appearance.
Filler to the chin and jawline may provide more facial balance and harmony. Chin deficiency is usually apparent on looking at a person’s side profile, where the chin should align with a vertical line drawn through the philtrum (junction between the nose and upper lip). At The Harley Street Face Clinic, we use fillers and chin implants to enhance facial balance and proportions. In addition, there can be additional changes in the chin enhanced by ageing including a more prominent chin crease below the lips caused by tissue loss and sagging skin. This can lead to more sagging skin, resulting in a dimpled appearance of the chin or a ‘witchy chin look’.

Chin fillers provide the face with improved proportions and defines the jaw so that facial features are in better harmony. It can be done non-surgically with the use of fillers or more permanently through surgery with a chin implant, but this involves downtime with bruising and swelling up to six weeks after treatment. Chin fillers offer a non-invasive, non-surgical chin augmentation treatment that’s quick, safe and effective for a natural, balanced aesthetic appearance. Filler injections to the cheeks can restore lost volume and can create a fuller, more youthful appearance. In addition, fillers can be used to enhance natural curves and emphasise feminine parts of the female face and masculine parts of the male face.
We specialise in natural-looking results. We believe in a natural augmentation of the chin area. Our aestheticians have pioneered research in the area of facial beauty and this has been published in the mainstream media and multiple TV Channels. We have also developed the application of the Phi Golden Ratio (used in many of the most famous Renaissance paintings of Leonardo Da Vinci) to the human face and we have multiple trained specialists at The Centre to apply the principles of this facial balance and beautification technique. At The Centre we have treated many celebrities and A-listers with these techniques to enhance natural beauty, a term we describe as Beautification of the Face, enhancing the natural Phi Golden Ratio Lines. Of key importance with filler rejuvenation is avoiding excessive filler use as this no longer looks natural or beautiful. The key application of filler in specific areas of the face differs depending on each individual’s facial characteristics. The application of chin filler is different in masculine and feminine faces. In women, it is focused along the Phi Golden Ratio lines of the cheek. In men, it focuses along the lines of the chin and jawline. If you have already had treatment that has been excessive it may be necessary to dissolve the existing filler or wait for the filler to resolve. At The Harley Street Face Clinic, we only specialise in natural-looking results
We use a combination of treatments to minimise discomfort, these include the use of a powerful numbing local anaesthetic cream that is specially made for us. We use state-of-the-art cannula (no-needle) technique to minimise discomfort.
We use fillers that have incorporated anaesthetic into the injectable fillers to increase patient comfort. At The Harley Street Face Clinic, we use additional numbing and vibration devices that use the Nobel Prize-winning research on ‘The Gate Control Theory of Pain” to minimise discomfort. We take the above measures to ensure most patients only experience minor discomfort.
Studies on the safety of fillers have reported filler treatments as relatively safe with few side effects when completed by trained specialists. Recorded adverse events are usually minor including temporary injection site redness for less than three days. Patients may occasionally report temporary symptoms of redness, swelling, discomfort, lumps-bumpy changes, bruising, itching or change in colour. Infection is very rare however it is important that the treatment is completed in a CQC registered site (Care Quality Commission) and sterile precautions when having filler treatments. At The Centre, all treatments are completed in our specialist Facial Centre on Harley Street. Serious side effects such as damage to the skin (termed Necrosis) or damage to vision have very rarely been reported. Our staff has pioneered the teaching of other doctors to avoid these serious issues in both National and International Conferences since 2012. Fillers are currently lacking from regulation, which remains a controversy in the UK. Precautions can be taken with competent practitioners to avoid these serious complications.
We use a combination of treatments to focus on a natural rejuvenation that is both safe and long-lasting. Over the last 5-years, fillers have become more and more popular as both the product has reached new levels of quality and safety and our techniques and skills at using them have matured with experience. Our team has been using non-surgical treatments with patients for over ten years. We believe that it is important to avoid potential issues, we believe that there are certain products that are associated with higher risks, including permanent and semi-permanent fillers. In some patients, this can result in long-term issues. In addition, a number of highly marked products have shown to have minimal results, many patients have come to us disappointed by the lack of results from treatments including Thermage, Ultherapy and thread lifts. We do not offer any of these treatments which have minimal results.
Some patients may have a facial anatomy which is characterised by a marked recession of the chin and these patients are better suited to a surgical correction including a chin implant.
This mostly depends on the viscosity of the product that is used and your own individual bodily response to dermal fillers. Here at The Harley Street Face Clinic, we use only clinically-proven and approved dermal fillers, for longer-lasting results and a natural look. Expect your chin and jawline enhancement results to last anything between 8 and 24 months, after which, you can return to the clinic for another treatment.
Dermal fillers for the chin and jawline will instantly create a scaffold effect for the skin as well as lift areas that need to be supported. They are injected into the underlying skin tissues and are then moulded to the desired shape. They can create more definition and over time will assist with the general tone and hydration of the skin tissues, due to the hyaluronic acid which is present within the dermal fillers that we use here at The Harley Street Face Clinic. We have a customised technique that uses two different type of filler to enhance the jawline chin, using a calcium based filler we are able to improve shape. This enhancement is more natural as the shape and consistency simulates bone unlike softer fillers. At The Centre we are also able to advise on long-term solutions such as a chin implant that require no ongoing maintenance.
The results will be seen Immediately as the dermal filler will physically lift and support the tissues of the skin and help to create a more pleasing shape to your chin and jawline. There may be some slight swelling, immediately after your treatment which can mean that your true results might take a few days. Dermal fillers can take up to 2 weeks to fully settle in and this is typically when optimum results can be experienced. After such time, you may wish to return to the clinic for a top up or any re-balancing or tweaking which might be required.
The longevity of your results will mostly depend on your individual response to dermal fillers and how quickly your body will metabolise the product injected. Some lifestyle factors are also linked to the longevity of results (such as smoking, excessive sun exposure and weight loss or gain). Dermal fillers for the chin and jawline tend to be longer lasting as they are more viscous and contain a cross-linking agent, which stabilises the product and makes it ‘thicker’. You may find that a chin and jawline enhancement using dermal fillers can last anything up to 12-18 months.
You might experience some slight swelling, tenderness and in some rare cases, bruising following your treatment, as this is a procedure which uses a needle or cannula. However, this will ease in a day or so and will not prevent you undertaking your normal everyday activities or going to work. Aftercare will include avoiding saunas, hot baths, steam rooms and excessive exercise for 24 hours post-procedure, as well as avoiding rubbing or touching the area for as long as possible. It’s important to be careful with your face after any cosmetic treatment and to use facial products that are approved for post-procedure care, such as mineral makeup and gentle facial cleansers.
In extremely rare cases, there can be an allergic reaction to the product. This tends to happen however when the treatment has been administered by non-medical professionals using counterfeit or ‘cheap’ dermal fillers and who are not properly trained. At The Harley Street Face Clinic, we only use FDA approved, tested and proven dermal fillers, renowned for their safety records, their purity and their stability and all our practitioners are medically qualified and fully trained to administer dermal fillers safely and effectively. More often, some slight swelling, bruising and tenderness may be experienced for 24 to 48 hours after your dermal filler treatment, but this is very normal, as any injectable treatment using a needle or cannula is creating a trauma to the skin. Therefore this response is very common and nothing to be concerned about. You can ease any swelling, bruising or tenderness by using an ice pack or arnica gel.
