Non-surgical Rhinoplasty

A non-surgical rhinoplasty utilises a filler material to alter the shape and position of the nose.

Why have a non-surgical rhinoplasty?

The principal advantage of the technique is that it avoids a surgical procedure. However, by definition, the treatment is not permanent. A non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose job) can be used effectively to correct the appearance of the nose from small bumps to straightening the nose’s appearance.

A non-surgical nose job can be used to improve certain features of a patient’s nose who is not yet ready for a surgical rhinoplasty and to refine or augment the appearance of a person’s nose who has previously undergone rhinoplasty.

About non-surgical rhinoplasty

Precautions are required in non-surgical rhinoplasty, as the nose is an intricate structure with important anatomy that must be preserved. There are important blood vessels in the nose that need to be avoided with a non-surgical rhinoplasty. Thus, these techniques should ideally be performed by a doctor who is also experienced in surgical rhinoplasty and who has extensive knowledge of the nose’s underlying anatomy.

Caution is also required to ensure a sterile environment is used to maximise rapid recovery and reduce the risk of infection. The most common filler used is a type of hyaluronic acid that naturally dissipates, with most results typically lasting for over one year.

In patients who have undergone previous surgical rhinoplasty, care is required as the underlying anatomy has been modified. Liquid rhinoplasty is a highly effective way to make your nose smoother and more even, particularly if you have thin skin. Like perfecting a painting, filler can be used for fine and intricate refinements. This is a treatment we specialise in, please note this is not suitable for all patients.

Carefully placed filler treatments add volume to specific points on the nose. At The Centre on Harley Street London, we use dermal fillers designed to augment the shape and show instant results that last 12 to 18 months.

What does a non-surgical rhinoplasty involve?

Compared to a surgical rhinoplasty a non-surgical rhinoplasty with fillers is relatively straightforward. After a consultation where we will discuss your goals, you will be asked to lie down with your face tilted upwards.

Our topical anaesthetic especially made for us in Germany is applied to the nose to numb the area. The filler is then injected into the pre-marked areas around the nose, and then maybe the bridge of the nose. You may experience a pinching sensation or pressure. We also use other forms of anaesthetic including cold temperature and ice.

Depending on the extent of your non-surgical rhinoplasty, the procedure takes between 15 and 45 minutes. You can have additional fillers placed elsewhere on the face during the same session, including the cheeks, chin, jawline, nasolabial folds, tear troughs and lips.

When will I see the results from non-surgical rhinoplasty?

You will see results instantly with your non-surgical rhinoplasty. You may see some minor swelling or bruising after the treatment, but this resolves in a few days for the majority of patients.

Swelling may last for around 5 days in approximately 5% of patients, whereas bruising is experienced by 2% of patients. Our no-needle technique using a cannula enhances recovery.

The results of a non-surgical rhinoplasty last for 12-18 months with our techniques and choice of filler.

Will I look natural with a non-surgical rhinoplasty?

We treat A-listers, celebrities and people from all walks of life whose goals are natural, long-lasting results. We avoid an overdone look by avoiding excessive use of fillers and ensuring that we recognise the individual characteristics of each face and place the filler so it enhances and beautifies naturally and effectively.

Do I need a nose specialist?

We are specialists in delivering natural-looking results, and our clinicians are experts in their field as they only do facial aesthetics. They have appeared across mainstream media, including national television, providing expertise about surgical and non-surgical facial cosmetic treatments, and the Phi Golden Radio that we use to calculate where filler enhancements should be placed.

Will I experience any discomfort or pain?

We have several options to make sure your non-surgical rhinoplasty is as comfortable as possible.

Firstly, we know what we are doing and have highly skilled clinicians who use the latest techniques, such as the no-needle cannula, which is more comfortable than the needle technique. Plus it results in less swelling and bruising so your downtime will be shorter.

Secondly, we apply our own anaesthetic cream, specially manufactured for us in Germany. This will numb the areas we are treating and combined with the anaesthetic contained in the filler will ensure that you won’t feel any pain.

Thirdly, we do use numbing and vibration devices and the Nobel Prize-winning Gate Control Theory of Pain to provide further relief.

Are there any risks or complications?

Fillers have generally been reported as being relatively safe with few side effects when completed by trained specialists. Recorded adverse events are usually minor and include temporary redness, swelling and bruising to the injection sites.

Infection is very rare however but it is important that the treatment is completed in a CQC (Care Quality Commission) registered site with a sterile environment and that follows health and safety requirements. At The Centre, all treatments are completed in our specialist Facial Centre on Harley Street.

Our staff are renowned experts, teaching other doctors about facial cosmetic treatments and how to avoid serious issues. Fillers are currently lacking regulation in the UK, which remains somewhat of a controversy.

What treatments are best avoided in the nose?

We use a combination of treatments to deliver a natural rejuvenation that is safe and long-lasting. Undoubtedly, fillers have become very popular and both the quality of the product and techniques to administer it has reached new levels of safety.

At The Centre, we believe that it is crucial to avoid potential issues with high-risk products that have or may cause serious long-term issues. This is why we use hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers that are biocompatible with the human body, have an excellent safety record and are FDA-approved.

Some patients may have characteristics of their nose that are unsuited to filler treatment, and these patients are better suited to a surgical rhinoplasty correction.

How long does a non-surgical rhinoplasty last?

The longevity of your results will depend on the viscosity of the dermal filler that is used and your own individual bodily response to dermal fillers. Here at The Harley Street Face Clinic in London we use only clinically proven and approved dermal fillers, for longer-lasting results and a natural look. Expect your non-surgical rhinoplasty results to last approximately 12-18 months, after which, you can return to the clinic for another treatment.

What do dermal fillers for a non-surgical rhinoplasty do?

When used in the nasal area, dermal fillers will instantly lift the areas of the skin that need more support. They can also create definition and symmetry where required. They are injected into the underlying skin tissues and create a ‘scaffold’ for the uppermost layers. They can disguise a bump on the nose, produce more of a tip, even out asymmetry and re-shape the nose for a more attractive appearance.

How long do dermal fillers for the nose take to work?

Results will be seen straight away as the dermal filler will physically lift and support the tissues of the skin and can be moulded into shape by your practitioner. However, there may be some slight swelling immediately after your treatment which can mask the true results, but this eases after a day or so.

The product can take up to 2 weeks to fully settle and this is typically when the optimum results are visualised. After such time, you may wish to return to the clinic for a top-up or re-balancing, which may be required in some cases.

How often do you need to get a non-surgical rhinoplasty using dermal fillers?

The longevity of your results somewhat depends on your individual response to dermal fillers and how quickly your body metabolises the product injected. Most dermal fillers used in the nose are longer lasting as they are more viscous and contain a cross-linking agent, which stabilises the product and makes it ‘thicker’.

At The Harley Street Face Clinic London, we use products that are proven to provide the highest safety records as well as exceptional performance. Some patients only need to have a non-surgical rhinoplasty once a year. However, expect to visit your practitioner every 6 to 12 months for repeat treatments. You will get to know how your body responds to the treatment and how often you will need treatment.

Is there any downtime or aftercare required with a non-surgical rhinoplasty using dermal fillers?

Most patients have minimal recovery time, walk out of the clinic and continue with their normal, everyday activities. You may have some slight swelling and tenderness.

In some rare cases, bruising follow your treatment. However, this will ease in a day or so and will not prevent you from undertaking your daily routine.

Aftercare includes avoiding saunas, hot baths, steam or excessive exercise for 24 hours post-procedure. Be careful not to rub or touch the area for at least 48 hours.

It’s important to be careful with your face after any cosmetic treatment and to use facial products that are approved for post-procedure care.

What, if any, are the possible side effects of nose fillers?

On rare occasions, there can be a serious issue with fillers to the nose, resulting in damage to vision. For this reason, it is important to see a specialist who has knowledge of the underlying anatomy of the face who knows how to avoid these issues.

At The Harley Street Face Clinic, our practitioners are medically qualified to administer the treatment safely and carry out multiple important steps that are necessary to ensure a good result free of issues.
